CONSULTANTS MANAGEMENT DIVISION

Consulting Engineers continued to play an important part in the implementation of civil engineering projects. Owing to the specialised nature of some projects, it has been necessary to engage consulting engineers to assist in their implementation, and their involvement in the foreseeable future is likely to be in the field of environmental pollution control projects.
6.07 Eight firms of consulting engineers were engaged on 30 projects. Reports on eight of the investigation or feasibility study projects were received in 1974/75.

Construction work was commenced during the year on Stage II of the Clear Water Bay Road Development at Ngau Chi Wan. Work on the extension of the runway by 847 metres to 3,393 metres was substantially completed. Grooving has been carried out on 70% of the extended runway. Construction of the main culvert in Kwai Chung Reclamation was also completed.

The Development and Airport Division is responsible for investigating the engineering feasibility of schemes for the provision of land for urban development in Kowloon. Where Government agrees to proceed with a scheme, the Division also carries out the formation of the land and the provision of services.
