RACE NO. 1: MIRS. BAY HANDI- CAP: FROM THE TWO MILE POST ONCE ROUND AND IN.

The opening race to-day will be con- fined to "A" Class China pories, but winners of $5,000.00 or more in stakes. since January 1, 1938, are barred. Silkylight is naturally precluded from: participating, and in its absence Bear Claw has been given top weight of 168 lbs. It is, however, rumoured due to this heavy burden, and with a view to reserving it for the Easte: Stakes, next Monday, Bear Claw may not accept, leaving Wild Life to repre-

sent the Dunbar Stable.

For the third position, Wild Life seems to be the choice, but it has not it is possible that it may be beaten by done anything of note this year, and

The race will, in my opinion, be fought out between King's Privilege and Bredon (Mr. Proulx). At the last meeting, Bredon ran quite well up to to a certain stage, but after passing the Rock, it clamped down and refus- ed to carry on Known for his ability Mr. in getting off to a good start, Proulx may be able to obtain the best out of Bredon, and if it should secure the lead on coming into the straight, it may win. Then there is Macquarie River (Mr. S. W. Tang) to be consi- dered. It has invariably done well over short distance events, and a win here would not be surprising.

RACE NO. 5: DEEP BAY HANDI- CAP: (FIRST SECTION)—SIX FUR- ILONGS.

This is the first leg of the "Daily |Double," and punters are presented with a fascinating problem in making the right selection. For coming in se- Fatshan cond to Boolat Bay in the Handicap over one mile, Amberley (Mr. Y. T. Fung) has been penalised 7 lbs., whilst Laughing Girl (Mr. S. C. Liang) has gone up Ibs. for tak- ing third position in the same race. It would appear, therefore, that these two ponies will vie for honours, but Fluen dirum Eve (Mr. H. C. Pih), al- though it has to carry 155 lbs., must also be considered.

-

The latter pony· should give the other two ponies named a good run, and can possibly win. I have no in- formation as to who will ride Just In Time, which is at present in the pink of condition, and Royal Consort (Mr. Shu) is also now fighting fit..

· RACE NO. 6: THE CALLIOPE HANDICAP: SIX FURLONGS.

This race is confined to “B”- Glass Australian ponies, in which Centre Court and Derby Day are given top weight of 165 lbs. which I consider is too much of a handicap to surmount. This is in reality a clash between the new and old ponies.

Vixen Tor is in splendid condition, while I expect to see Annabella offer a challenge.

Unless Little Audrey has a good Istart, it may have to be satisfied with

being placed only.

RACE NO. 7: GIN DRINKERS BAY STAKES. ONE MILLE.-

This race will be confested by no- vice jockeys who will be given mounts Jon the new subscription grifins which have not won a race. Going through a process of elimination, I think we need only look for the winner among the following:

CAPE COMORIN (MR. H. A. DE BOTELHO),

CHARYBDIS (MR. "C.

GORY).
