ETHIOPIAN LEGATION'S SHARP REMINDER OF LEAGUE OBLIGATIONS

The Ethiopian Legation has issued a statement say-.

ing that if the British Government intends to request the League Council to release member states from undertakings not to recognise Ita- lian annexation, the Emperor will oppose the decision with every means.

The decision, says the statement, is contrary to the League Covenant, other treaties and the As- sembly resolution of July 4, 1936.

The Prime Minister in the House of Commons yesterday retorted that he was not aware of such an ab- surd allegation, as Mr. Attlee (lead- er of the Labour opposition) had said was current in many quarters, that Britain was prepared to make profit out of the sufferings of Abys- sinia.

Mr. Attlee had asked whether in the course of the Anglo-Italian ne- gotiations a request was made for incorporation of some of Abyssin- ian territory in the adjacent Bri- tish territories by way of frontier Fectification or otherwise, and af- firmation of British rights or claims relative to Lake Tsana.

The Prime Minister declined to discuss details of the negotiations before their conclusion.-Reuter.

"BRINGING UP BABY"

Though she has long been es- tablished as a leading dramatic actress, Katherine Hepburn had little opportunity to display her talent for comedy until she was cast in "Bringing Up Baby," which after being shown at a preview yes- terday, opens at the Queen's Theatre to-day.

After her first sensational screen success in "A Bill of Divorcement," it would have seemed as illogical to picture Miss Hepburn as a come- dienne as it would be to imagine the immortal Berchardt or Duse playing the title role in "Charlie's Aunt." But here she comes as a comedienne.

Yet the transition from comedy to tragedy and heavy drama” has been made successfully so often in that order, that it seems only na- tural that a talented performer should have no difficulty in bridging the gap the other way.
