YESTERDAY'S GATE
RECEIPTS
Yesterday's gate receipts from the final of the "Sunday Herald" International Charity Cup com petition between England and China amounted to $1,900, which brings the total receipts for this year's series to ovēr $4,000.
CHINA won the "Sunday Herald" International Charity Cup Football
Competition for the fifth time yesterday, when they beat England bying all hopes of an England re-
2 goals to 1, after sharing two goals at the interval, although they should have left the field half a dozen goals to the good.
Playing before a very large gathering in very hot weather, which was much too uncom- fortable, China proved vastly superior to England in all departments of the game, their brilliant intermediate line and inside-forwards carrying the day.
England's failure was at half-back where good spoiling was brought to nought by pitiful dis- tribution, while the inside forwards were unfortunate to have struck a bad day, neither Howlett nor Saw impressing in the inside-berths, while Calvert was a poor leader of the attack.
The China team, after an indiffer- ent first half, played copy-book | football in the second period and for the majority of the 45 minutes had the English team penned in their own half.

-PERFECT COMBINATION
Lau Chung-sang and Lee Shek yau are a perfect left-wing combin- ation and although Han Ching-to and Fang King-cheong were equal- ly dangerous on the right-wing, Hau was wasted here as he is es sentially a left-winger.

Grogan and Bickford were the only two English forwards" to "at- tract any attention, Grogan `work- - ed hard on the right-wing, but he was: -up - against a top-powerful combination in Hsu King-shing and Lee Tin-sang. Bickford also had his hands full with Leung Wing- chiu, whose robust tackling achieved its object but also pro- duced a censure from the Referee. (Continued on Page 19)
