Hanchwang Capture Claim Described As Premature

Hankow, To-day.

Reports from all sides confirm that the Japanese offensive along the Tientsin-Pukow Railway in south Shantung has been brought to a stand- still on the northern bank of the Grand Canal. The claim to the capture of Hanchwang by the Japanese is described as distinctly premature in Hankow.

Chinese reinforcements have been sent from Weishan Lake in the

direction of Yenchowfu to streng-. then the troops engaged in bitter fighting in the mountainous region north of the Grand Canal.
