Latest reports from the Shantung front reveal that the Japanese offensive, after progressing to within 35 miles of Hsuchow, has been thrown back. Severe fighting is now taking place round Tenghsien, which Gen. Li Chung-jen's Kwangsi troops recaptured yesterday after- noon, in an overwhelming counter-attack. Japanese troops in the city were
