VARIATIONS OF THE TANGO
Now learn the main steps of the Tango with me. I am pre suming you have mastered the Walk, and also regained any con- fidence you may have lost in your ability to dance the Tango as rhythmically and gracefully as any of the Latin peoples.

A verp simple movement which you can amalgamate easily with the Walk
" -
1. Step forward on the Left foot, Count Quick, half a beat.
2. Very short step to the side and slightly BACK with the Right foot. Keep knees close together here. Count Quick, half a beat.
3. Step forward again on the Left foot. Count Slow, 1 beat.
Take the side step on the flat foot with the outside edge of the foot reaching the floor first. This applies to both partners. Keep it smooth. Don't bounce or rise. As I always say to my pupils. "Stay down."
CLOSED PROMENADE
1. Take a walk step forward on the Right foot turning on it to the Right, and opening your partner into Promenade Position. This is done with a slight pressure of the Right hand, but mainly by almost rolling your partner away from you on your Right hip-bone.
2. Step to the side along Line of Dance with the Left foot. Count Slow 1 beat.
3. Cross the Right foot over the left foot on the Heel Count Quick, half a beat.
4. Short step to the side on the heel of the Left foot, Count Quick, half a beat.

Turn only a quarter of a turn on this figure. All the turn takes place on the first two steps.
