FASHION WORLD REVOLUTION
HERUBIC-LOOKING Norman Hartnell, dress designer to the Queen, is to star in a fashion film. The theme is the evolution of one of his creations from the dawning of inspiration (you'll see waves of it reaching him from a Wedgwood plate above his desk) to the finished product emerging from his salon on the graceful figure of Lady Bridgett Poulett
The film will be in colour, and because of this Hartnell is blending deeper and more vivid shades than usual.
One source of inspiration is a parade of the Life Guards, and he has interpreted their brilliant uniform in a black, white and scarlet evening dress and cloak. But what is even more to his credit he has persuaded two of the Guards to allow them- selves to be transported to his showrooms so that the camera can take the happy trio together, and in this instance I'm sure comparisons will not be odious.
Other scenes will include such varying subjects as the Egyp tian Room at the British Museum and a small girl sucking a stick of pink and white Brighton rock (inspiration there, too), but most of the shooting will be done in his premises in Bruton- street.
1,000 Designs a Year
Norman Hartnell who designs over a thousand models thinks that men have better clothes judgment than
yearly women.
I agree. The explanation, I think, lies in their impartiality they are not influenced (as women are) by a sub-conscious ap plication to themselves.
"If it's a success this colour film will revolutionise the fas world," said Hartnell "Clients will be able to clothes after seeing them in the local cinema or homes. It can be sent to America in fact all And the natives of Bonga Wonga wor months old periodicals any more.
