WALES BEAT IRELAND AT SWANSEA

BUT LOSERS GIVE IMPROVED DISPLAY

SECOND HALF

Swansea, Saturday.

In spite of the fact that Ireland had twice pre- viously been beaten by England and Scotland in the International Rugby Championship series, they gave a gallant display against Wales to-day and were only beaten by a goal, a penalty goal and a try (11 points) to a goal (5 points), after more than holding their own in the second half.

Wales made one change from their previous side, Legge, of Newport, replacing Jenkins, at full-back, as the latter was suffering from a bruised knee. As a result of Wales' Victory to-day, they are on level terms with Scotland, although the latter have yet to meet England, in what will probably be the deciding game.

Ireland kicked off and Wales immediately assumed the offen- sive, attacking hotly to twice reach the Irish 25, the second of which proved disastrous, as

Moran intercepted Wifred Wool-after the resumption. The latter, ler's pass, and dashed away to however, again came into the pic- beat Legge, the Welsh full-back, ture later in the game, brilliant behind Wales posts, McKibben handling and passing featuring adding the goal points easily, their play, and it was only the stout and Ireland led by five clear defence of Craig and Torrens points after only three minutes which prevented any immediate play.

TO-DAY'S TENNIS PROGRAMME

Six Championship

Events

Weather permitting, some fairly interesting tennis should be wit- nessed in the Colony Champion- ships, at the HKCC, this after- noon, as three Singles and three Doubles Championship events are down for decision.

Probably the most interesting match in the Singles event is that between S. S. Hussain and H Owen-Hughes, as both are fairly evenly matched, although the lat ter is likely to emerge winner by reason of his better overhead work and play at the net.

In the two other singles encoun- ters HD. Rumjahn, the holder, should meet with little opposition

Crawford and Burnett have never

played together and the outcome of their pairing against a the season- ed Craigengower combination should be very interesting/
