Australia's Attitude On Eden Resignation
Canberra, To-day.
The Australian Premier, Mr. J. A. Lyons, in a state- ment to the press yesterday, said that Austra- lia had been consulted by the United Kingdom on January 27, while Mr. Anthony Eden was still Foreign Secretary, on the proposal for re- opening negotiations with Italy.
The Commonwealth had agreed that the interna-
tional situation demanded such action.
Mr. Lyons added that at this stage there had been no indication of any difference of opinion be tween Mr. Neville Chamberlain and Mr. Eden.
Subsequently the Commonwealth agreed to Mr. Eden's resignation as a purely domestic affair which die not call for further consultation with Australia.
