HOUSE OF COMMONS
London, To-day.
The departure of air mails from Britain without the times of closing of the mails being avail- able to the public, was the subject of a o question in the House of Commons yesterday by a Con- servative member.
The Assistant Postmaster-General said that this only applied to first-class mail to Empire coun- tries on the roads to East Africa and South Africa and to India and Malaya respectively.
of
He hoped that when adequate experience had been obtained this traffic in relation to the air- craft capacity available, he would be able to publish such informa- tion, as was recently done in the. case of one of the weekly services to South Africa.
THE ANSWER
With reference to the suggestion that people were using foreign air mails, which fly according to fixed schedule, in view of the uncertain- ty, here, the Assistant Postmaster General said the approximate week ly weight of United Kingdom mail by Imperial Airways these routes was 15 tons, as against 11⁄2 tons by foreign air lines.--Reuter
