"RAPIER" REVIEWS THE MAIN RACES AT ANNUAL MEETING
With the exception of to-day's racing, another Annual Race Meet- ing has practically come to an end, and, judging by comments I have heard in every direction, the 1938 Meeting is regarded as one of the most successful sporting events in recent years. Clean, wholesome sport predominated, and the successful cul- mination of this Meeting is due in no small measure to the care: and attention which the Stewards and Officials of the Hong Kong Jockey Club have taken in ensuring that all arrangements are carried out with absolute precision and the minimum of dis- comfort.
The fine weather which prevailed last Monday was responsible for the presence of one of the largest crowds I have seen for a long time. The public stand was packed to its utmost capacity, and many found difficulty in obtaining adequate standing room to watch the races. It was certainly a fine day for running off the Derby. The attendance on the next two days was quite good, but not to the same marked extent as last Monday, when the number of persons present must have constituted a record.
