I put Heather Gerrard on my list though I only caught a brief glimpse of her from a distance, but she deserves to be placed among the "sure things" if only because she wore that happy combination, black and brown. Too few women appreciate its distinction and fewer still under- stand its soundness as a basis for a winter wardrobe.

It was Heather's hat that attracted, my attention first a black- toque banded with brown mink.
