15. For ser- vices rendered, and the esteem in which she is held, Margaret She- pherd, the well-known swimmer, has been made a life member of Portobello Women's Club. She is the first to receive this honour. Twice she has won both the 50 and 100 yards district championships, as well as having been placed in several Scottish title races.

Selected for international trials, she is one of the Portobello team which holds the 250 yards Scottish record, and which for two years in succession have won the E.C.A.S.A. team championship, and the Nay- smith Trophy, which the club re- tained this year,

GRIMMETT AND BRADMAN ABUSED IN MELBOURNE

Sydney, January 20, Dick Whitington, chief scorer in S.A.'s first innings against Victoria, was much perturbed in Melbourne by the "most objectionable barrack- ing I have heard in Shield cricket matches."

Some spectators referred to the South Australian players "cheats," following the dismissal of Lee c. and b. Grimmett. Clarrie and Don Bradman were the chief butts for abusive comments dur- ing the afternoon.
