SOFTBALL SERIES

WITH only limited practice during the past two weeks, the finalists in the International Soft- ball Series, China and the U.S.A., which will be played next Sunday at 2.30 p.m., on the Hong Kong - Football Club ground, are nevertheless "rarin' to go!". Having made all the medicine he can with his team, Abe Liu, the coach for China, confidently awaits the outcome of the championship.

China has the more impressive line-up with their roster of youngsters, the youngest being Earl Wong, 18 year old third sac- ker, who has made a remarkable showing in baseball the past two

seasons.

The line-up for China would even make a good one for base- ball. Chow Young, the "Wizard of the Whiff," has been playing in high competitive ball Leagues in Hawaii, and was the star hurler, for the winners of the pennant in the Honolulu Commercial Soft- ball League, before he came to Hong Kong.

Hard-hitting Bill Woo, late of Montreal, will be at first; Al Lau, another hefty clouter at second; and Bobby Jan, star of Pui Ching Academy, will be seen at short. Out in the orchard, there are Tuffy Chinn, stocky leftfielder; fleetfooted Wally Ching at centre; and the re- doubtab.e Tommy Chan, veteran of four Far Eastern Olympics, right.

TOUGH ASSIGNMENT The Americans have a tough as- signment on Sunday when they clahs with China as there is no one in Hong Kong who is quite as capa- ble as Abe Liu when it comes to coaching a baseballl team. However, anything can happen in a ball game, and many rehearsed plays can awry when least expected.

The Yankee contingent are going into the melee with apprehension as, considering the relative merits

of each side, the Chinese have youth and the old fighting spirit which is a combination that is hard to heat NOT ENOUGH PRACTICE Although the Amercans are the more experienced aggregation, they, have had very little practice toget

With rounds of 67 and 70, he was seven strokes under par, and with them he won the scratch trophy, and the handicap, playing from plus 1. Incidentally, he is the only player in the State who is handi- capped at his club to concede start to par.
