FARM BILL PASSES SENATE

The Senate yesterday passed the Government's Farm Bill, which now-awaits the President's signature.

The new Bill is based on the exist- ing Soil Conservation Act and estab- lishes drastic control over production and marketing of cotton, maize, tobacco and rice.

COST OF LIVING IN SHANGHAI

Shanghai, To-day, The cost of living in Shanghar has risen 35 per cent. from the out- break of hostilities, according to official index figures now published by the S.M.C.

Greatest increase occurred in the price of petrol, which rose 100 per cent.

Main increase in the price of food was 50 per cent.
