In a joint statment issued this morning by the Japanese naval and military authorities, warning was given of probable wholesale-expropriation of Chinese property both inside and outside the International Settlement.
The announcement`says that if and when the military au- thorities see fit, all Chinese organisations, banks, business concerns and properties, in- cluding land, will be taken over by the Japanese.
It is hinted that all Chinese industrial plants in and around Shanghai will be taken over and operated for the Japanese benefit almost immediately, though factories in the area south of the Soochow Creek are likely to remain inviolate for the time being.
