U.S.G.A. MODIFY THE STYMIE RULE

New York, January 10. The United States Golf Asso- ciation has decided to modify the stymie rule, so that hénce- forth the nearer ball on the green may be lifted if it lies within 6 inches of the hole; also when the balls lie within 6 inches of each other.

In announcing the change, which will be effective imme- diately and throughout 1938, the association stressed the fact that it was adopted purely as a trial.
