CHINESE CLAIM TO BE CLOSING ON WUHU
Hankow, To-day. Chinese sources claimed to-day that Chinese troops are closing in on Wuhu from the south and east and that a large number of boats are in the river ready to evacuate the Nippon defenders.
Having recaptured Wanchih on the Kiangnan Railway for these- cond time, the Chinese troops are advancing on Wuhu along this line to join in the siege. Another col- umn is moving southward to attack Hsuanchen, which is enveloped. Chinese forces expect to enter the town at any moment..
FRANCO SEEKS TO EVADE HUNTER COST

At question time in the Com- mons yesterday, the Foreign Se- cretary said that the Spanish in- surgent government had shown itself indisposed to pay compen- sation for the loss of the British destroyer H.M.S. Hunter, which ran on a mine in Spanish waters last year.
