POLICE HOLD S. CHINA “A” IN FAST ENCOUNTER

WONG MEI SHUN IN LIMELIGHT

THRILLING END TO MATCH

Two goals in arrears in the first- half, the South China “A” rallied in the second half and managed to share four goals and the points with the Police, in their First Divi- sion League football encounter at Caroline Hill yesterday, and in the closing minutes all but snatched both points when Tang Kwong-sum broke through the defence to see his well-placed shot saved by: Manning.

Wong Mei-shun turned out for the Chinese in place of Lai Shui- wing, and gave an excellent dis- play at inside-left. He had hard luck with several attempts and his robust, but clean tackles kept the Police defenders on the alert all the time.

Wall lead the Police attack, in place of Johnson, who has gone home, and was prominent through- out the game. An injury in the first half of the game slowed down his play.

POLICE LEAD

The Police played one of their best games

this season and took the lead in the first half through Howlett, who converted a

pass from T. Pile, and soon after Moss culminated a run down the left- wing to beat Choo with a grounder. After this the Chinese were eon- tinually on the attack, but good work by Bone, at right-back, and Gough, in the pivotal position, kept the Chinese from scoring.

Cheong Moon-wing, however, re- duced the lead when Manning mis- -judged a centre, and the ball enter-

ed "the net.

Four minutes from time, Cheuk Shek-kam, equalised from close range and from then onwards the Police goal underwent a hectic time and just managed to hold out till the final whistle.

SAPPERS FAIL TO MAKE AN APPEARANCE
