The reinforced concrete lining of the buoyancy tanks of the floating pumping station at Plover Cove was completed. Special lifting facilities were provided at Tai Mei Tuk pumping station for lifting the connecting pipeworks out of the water when required, to prevent recurrence of damage in typhoons. The locally made penstocks for isolating the pump delivery mains from the Plover Cove Tai Po Tau supply tunnel were put into service. Twin-rails and a modern winch were installed at the slipway at Plover Cove for slipping motor vessels operating inside the reservoir.

The crankshafts of all three engines driving the pumping plant failed almost simultaneously, after having been in service for some 6,000 hours, requiring the organisation of emergency pumping arrangements. The cause of crankshaft failure is under investigation, meanwhile the three crankshafts were replaced and normal operation resumed.
