LEAGUE

SOFTBALL

GAMES

FOR TO-MORROW ERNIE HEARTHER TO ACT

AS UMPIRE-IN-CHIEF IN INTERNAT'AL SERIES TO-DAY'S "SPOTLIGHT”

(By "SHORTSTOP”)

WITH five more games to complete the schedule of the Softball League, it is unlikely that all the games will be played-off this week-end. There will only be three games to-morrow. The Hong Kong Baseball Club will play a "double-header" at the Filipino Club, first against the Canadian Chinese and later with the C.B.A. On the C.B.A. ground, the English Forum will meet the Filipino Club at 11.30 a.m.

}

As most members of No. 3, Machine Gun Company will be at Stonecutter's Island, on Sunday, for shooting practice, it looks very much as if they will not be able to finish their League schedule before the International Series begin.

MIDDLESEX DEFEAT D.B.S.

The official schedule for the preliminaries of the International Softball Series will be as as fol- lows: Hong Kong versus Philip- pine Islands, at 10 a.m.; Britain versus China "A", at 11.30 a.m., on the C.B.A. ground, on Sunday, January 30.

On the following day, which is a holiday, China "B" will meet India at 10 a.m., followed by clash between Portugal and U.S.A.

UMPIRE IN CHIEF Ernie Hearther, old time hall act as player, has consented to Umpire-in-Chief for all the games The Diocesan Boys' School lost in this Series and players will have an impartial and competent um- to the Middlesex Regiment on the School ground, in a friendly pire to make the decisions behind

his At the early age of four, parents took him to Canada, and Bill resided there for 22 years be- fore returning to his native land.

Bill attended school at Toronto, and graduated from the University of Toronto, in 1929, majoring in architecture. In High School, Bill

took part in basketball and foot-

ball, but he says he "wasn't such

great shucks" at those sports. He just enjoyed playing the game.
