QUALITY QUITE WELL REPRESENTED
CITY AND SUBURBAN FAILS TO FILL (By "WATCHMAN")
London, December 21.
T is curious to mark the fluctuations which attend the fortunes of some of the most important races. Years ago the City and Suburban at Epsom firmly held its place among the most attractive of the spring handicaps and was responsible for a large amount of ante-post betting.
..
Nowadays, the race does not come in for much attention in a betting sense until the date of running, though it still attracts big crowds to the spring meeting at Epsom.
Some of the teams:- H.K.C.C. 1st XI A. W. Hayward (Capt.), F. H. Stokes, J. H. Fox, F Marshall, R. D. Allen, L. D. Kilbee, L T. Ride, H. Owen Hughes, T. A. Pearce, T. E. Pearce, M. F. L. that
LEADERS SHOULD WIN
I.R.C., present League leaders, with their fine all round balance, should encounter little difficulty in defeating Army, despite the fact the game will be played on matting. Their batsmen are right on form just now, while Minu, will spin on anything and Abbas should' find the fast matting to his liking.
CC.C. are at home to Navy and for that reason, I favour them to win. The sailors will find the con- fined Valley ground vastly different to their wide open spaces at King's Park and will probably take too long to settle down. H.K.C.C. should have little difficulty against the Recreio, provided E. L. Gosano. Rodrigues, Prata or Soares, collec-| tively, do not decide to do some thing really big.
SECOND DIVISION
Recreio are at home to Army “B”. The latter knocked up a huge score against Club last week, chief- ly due to Cpl. Webb's century, On the other hand Alves and L. G. Gosano skittled out Army “A”, for- 28. In view of the fact that Army “A” are a good deal stronger than Army "B" and that the Portuguese team, on their own territory, are al- ways extremely • dangerous, a Re- creio victory is indicated.
K.C.C., despite their recent léan patch, should boat C.S.C.C., and Army “A” should have the better of LR.C. but I foresee a very keen tussle resulting from the fixture between University and Police at Pokfulum in which a win one way too much for even this hardened: prise.
