In the Central District, the Murray Road Multi-Storey Car Park comprising 900 spaces was opened in July 1973. In Kowloon, work on the extension to the Yau Ma Tei Multi-Storey Car Park was commenced.

A private multi-storey car park in Causeway Bay was opened to the public in April 1973 with a total of 800 spaces available.

The installation of 2,000 meters in Kowloon and Hong Kong Island under Parking Meter Programme No. 10 was completed.

2,000 new meters, ordered for installation in Central District and Tsim Sha Tsui under Parking Meter Programme No. 9, were delivered from U.K. These meters were calibrated to supply parking time at increased rates.

Operation hours of all existing meters were extended from 7.00 p.m. up to midnight, with the exception of those soon to be replaced by meters charging at high rates in Kowloon.

A further 2,000 meters charging at increased rates, together with equipment for converting 3,000 existing meters to charge at increased rates, were placed on order.

In order to cope with the increasing demand for parking space for commercial vehicles, a temporary off-street lorry park was planned to serve the Sham Shui Po area.

On the Island, there were net decreases of on-street parking spaces, being 654 for private cars and 12 for lorries.

There was a net increase of 94 parking spaces for motor cycles on the Island and 95 in the New Territories, while there was a net decrease of 141 spaces in Kowloon.
Traffic Light Signals

Two additional sets of traffic light signals were installed on the Island, bringing the total number of sets now in operation to 91.

On the Mainland, 14 additional sets were installed, bringing the total number of sets now in operation to 163.

Traffic light signal installation works were in hand at 16 locations, 10 on the Island and 6 on the Mainland.
9.65
Designs of signal installations were completed for a further 19 locations, 8 on the Island and 11 on the Mainland.
