Work on the new road linking Tai Mei Tuk and Luk Keng neared completion. A bridge was constructed at Luk Keng, and a single lane bridge on Sha Tau Kok Road was reconstructed to provide two lanes to remove the bottle-neck on this circular route.

Work continued on the Kei Ling Ha Lo Wai - Nai Chung Section of Ma On Shan Road, and planning continued for the other section between Nai Chung and Wu Kwai Sha. The route between Wu Kwai Sha and Siu Lek Yuen which, on completion, will provide a link between Sha Tin and Sai Kung, was investigated.

This Division is responsible for the design of new highways structures in the Colony. It provides also technical advice on structural matters to the Civil Engineering Office.
Design Projects

Detailed design of the footbridge across Queen's Road East near Wah Yan College was substantially completed. Preliminary planning was commenced on the footbridge across King's Road at Tong Shui Road.
9.32
The Division's main efforts were devoted to projects for Kowloon. Design works for the road structures at Canton Road Duplication, the footbridge over Nathan Road at Soy Street and the eastern part of the West Kowloon Corridor elevated road joining Gascoigne Road to Tong Mi Road were completed. Considerable progress was made on the design for the elevated road between Kwun Tong Road and the Airport Tunnel Road.

The main project for the New Territories was Tsuen Wan Bypass Stage I running from Kwai Chung Road to Texaco Road in Tsuen Wan and satisfactory progress was made. Design work on a footbridge over Castle Peak Road, Tsuen Wan, was completed.
Design Standards

Additions were made to the design standards already formulated as occasion demanded.
Special Project

The Po Shan Road Remedial Works, supervised by this Division, were completed.
