Imperial Airways Huge

Imperial Airways now have in service or on order 80 aeroplanes, of an aggregate of 185,065- h.p.

In view of the Air Ministry's. decision to hold an inquiry into allegations of inefficiency in Bri- tish air lines, details of Imperial Airways equipment are of "special interest.

Speeds given here are the normal cruising speeds of the respective types. The maximum speeds are considerably greater. Scheduled route speeds are based on economical cruising speeds, plus a margin allowed for adverse- winds.

The Present Fleet

The fleet of Imperial Airways consists of:

29 Empire four-engined Bristol- Pegasus flying-boats, of which six have yet to be delivered. Cruising speed about 165 m.p.h.

Two Shortland aeroplanes--the four-engined Scylla and Syrin. C. S. 95 m.p.h.

Seven foor-engined Handley Page land aeroplane, Jupiter en gines, of which there are three on the European services and four on the section between Alexandria and Karachi, C. S. about 95 m.p.h..
