A tower built at the Paris Exhibition provides the greatest thrills for visitors. Over 100 feet high the budding parachutists are whisked to the top în lifts, and after having the harness attached, they step off the platform and come floating down to earth. A steel wire attached to the top of the parachute makes it safe, and it cannot fall, to the ground, at a speed that would endanger the jumper. The weight of the parachutist is counter-balanced, enabling a gentle landing. Despite all these safety de- vices, the thrill of jumping into space remains. Photo shows-Doel par- achutists. In order to protect the French capital from air raiders in the event of war, Paris has its own defence force equipped with the latest wea- pons for repelling air attack. They are constantly practicing on the out- skirts of the city. Photo shows-A range finder in dise by the Defence- Force, on the outskirts of the city. (For Copyright).
