The requirement of photography for plotting purposes has resulted in a record number of 4,200 9" x 9" frames of photography being produced during this period.

7.32

In January, a new photogrammetric plotting contract, offered for an initial period of 18 months, was awarded to two contractors, due to an increase in the amount of work originally estimated. In mid-January, the first work was sent to the contractors for plotting. To date, the work is being produced at a satisfactory rate by these two contractors, and a good standard of machine plot at metric scales has been achieved.

MAPPING

Revision 1/600 Scale

7.33

There was a slight increase in the number of survey sheets fully revised (from 258 to 276 or about 7%) although there was a slight reduction in the number of staff employed on this work.

Revision 1/1200 Scale

7.34

There was also a 7% increase in the number of sheets fully revised at this scale, also with a slight reduction in the number of staff employed. The new method of revision in flat areas by making use of enlarged photographs together with the provision of a dense number of control points was in general use and has proved most successful.

7.35

An "intelligence" system of assembling and recording current information and future forecasts received from other Government departments and utility companies, useful for revision purposes, was started.

Metrication

7.36

The first sheets of the new 1/1000 scale metric specification were being drawn during the early part of 1974 and were due for publication in April 1974. No surveys at this scale were consequently carried out during the year under review.

Revision Small Scale

7.37

No major revision of any small scale sheets was made but a commencement was also made on the setting up of an "intelligence" system with a view to major revision during 1974/75.

Site Surveys

7.38

There was a 40% increase in site surveys carried out for Government projects.
