4.87 Projects at sketch planning and working drawing stage included a Physical and Recreation Training Centre at Gallipoli Barracks, an Electric Target Range at Lo Wu and additional accommodation for Gurkha Officers at Cassino and Gallipoli Barracks. Sketch plans for the provision of 68 married soldiers quarters and 44 married officers quarters at Stanley Fort were completed, and feasibility planning for 64 married soldiers quarters at Sek Kong Village was well advanced.

Projects built for other P.W.D. Offices

4.88 During the year under review Bus Crew Canteens and Regulators Offices were completed at Lai Chi Kok Bus Terminus and Tai Kok Tsui Ferry Concourse, while a High Level Walkway was completed in Central District.

4.89 The reprovisioning of Sai Yee Street Playground was also completed, as were the Administrative Building and Staff Quarters at the Shek Wu Hui Pilot Sewage Treatment Plant.

4.90 Projects under construction as the year closed included the Railway Terminus, Railway Staff Quarters, Multi-Storey Car Park, Bus Terminus and work to the podium of the Indoor Stadium, all at the Kowloon-Canton Railway Hung Hom Development.

4.91 Among other projects under construction were Temporary Office Accommodation at Sha Tin for the New Territories Development Department, Multi-Storey Housing at Sai Kung for villagers displaced by the new High Island Water Scheme, and accommodation in the Old Naval Dockyard for staff involved in the Mass Transit Railway Scheme.

4.92 The following members of the Architectural Office retired during the year:-

Two professional officers did not renew their contracts and left the service to return to the United Kingdom, whilst thirteen professional officers renewed their contracts for a further tour of duty.

4.94 Five local professional officers joined the staff during the year and seven local assistant professional officers were promoted to full professional rank. Twelve expatriate professional officers on agreement, selected for appointment by the Crown Agents, were recruited to the staff and seven professional officers were seconded from the U.K. Department of the Environment to work on Military projects.
