Departmental Quarters at Tai Po for the New Territories Administration were completed during the year, as were Senior Departmental Quarters at Tsuen Wan.

Construction of the new village houses in Tsuen Wan incorporating Stage I of Hoi Pa Village and Ham Tin Village was also completed.
Police
4.67 Following the completion of the new headquarters building in Arsenal Street in August, the new building, now known as May House, was declared open by the then Commissioner of Police at a ceremony held in November.
4.68 A Police Station was completed at Shing Woo Road and Sub-Divisional Police Stations were completed at Chai Wan, Ngau Tau Kok and Tsz Wan Shan.

Also completed during the year were Alterations and Additions to Hung Hom Sub-Divisional Police Station and Police Reporting Centres at numerous locations throughout the Colony.
4.70 Among the projects under construction at the end of the year were Kowloon District Headquarters, North Point Divisional Headquarters and Police Station, Cheung Sha Wan Divisional Police Station, Stanley Police Station and Accommodation for the Police Tactical Unit Companies at the Police Training School, Aberdeen.
Post Office

The second stage of improvements to the Kowloon Sorting Office was completed as were improvements to Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, while piling work to the new General Post Office was well advanced.
Prisons Projects

Satisfactory progress was maintained on the construction of the Pik Uk Prison and the Maximum Security Training Centre on Clearwater Bay Road.

The former Women's Prison in Lai Chi Kok was demolished before the end of the year to make way for the construction of the Kowloon Reception Centre.

Construction of a detention centre for young offenders at Shek Pik was nearing completion.

As a result of some disturbances in Stanley Prison, urgent security improvements were considered essential. A number of the improvement items were completed while others were put in hand.
Quarters

Construction was in hand at the end of the year on Married Soldiers Quarters at Victoria Barracks and on Departmental Quarters for Uniformed Staff of the Immigration Department.
