MAJOR ATTLEE LEAVES ON VISIT TO BARCELONA

THE leader of the Labour Parliamentary Opposi
tion, Mr. C. S. Attlee, left London late on Wed- nesday night for Republican Spain in response to the invitation of the Valencia Government.
He was accompanied by the Labour member, Mr. Philip Noel-Baker, and Miss Ellen Wilkinson.
Discussing reasons for his trip. Mr. Attlee told the Daily Herald" that he intended through the visit to give proof of the sympathy of British Labour for the Spanish peo ple, and its desire to help them “Sin their great struggle for Democracy, freedom and justice.”
He also expressed a desire to per- sonally examine conditions in Re- publican Spain, and would confer with members of the Valencia Goy- ernment and army leaders.
He also declared he wished to in-1 form himself about military and economic conditions, so that he will be in a position to begin an active campaign for assistance of the Spanish people-Trans-Ocean.
