LOOKING BACK ON SCOTTISH LEAGUE FOOTBALL

FIFTEEN YEARS OF

PROMOTION

AND RELEGATION

(By "INCHKEITH")

Glasgow, October 16. IT is really hard to realise that there are only seven clubs in the Second Division at the present time who have not been in the First Division since the introduction of promotion and relegation at the end of the season 1921-22 The clubs concern-

ed are Brechin City, Edinburgh City, Forfar Athletic, King's Park, Montrose, St. Bernards (who, of course, were one of the elite away back in the 'ninties), and Stenhousemuir.

With so many clubs endeavouring--not all of them to regaïn their lost status, the struggle for promotion grows keener each year. While not endeavouring to forecast the fortunate clubs in the present campaign, and, at the same time, not wishing to dampen the spirit of any of the contestants, only two of the seven-St. Bernards on account of their recent revival, and, possibly, Sten- housemuir, in view of their performances against both Raith and Albion Rovers appear to have any chance of preventing clubs, who have had First Division experience, from returning upstairs.
