DANGER OF UNDER-RATING PERFORMANCES

London, October 12. CAST a rule over Welsh Rugby players and mea- sure them by international standards and what do we find? Regretfully one has to confess to a con- glomeration with few towering above their fellows. But don't run away with the idea that Wales is not Rugby-minded and that her players are sadly lack- ing in ability. Those who think so may have a rude shock

There are difficulties and there are handicaps, but till the inter- national selectors reveal their judgments it is policy to withho opinions. Club Rugby in Wales is keener and more even than in England, and for that reason there is danger in under-rating per formances.

Work backwards from Cardiff's victory over previously un- beaten Gloucester to Newport's win over Cardiff and Pontypool's success over Newport. There is a pretty triangle which suggests strength in Welsh Rugby compared with English standards, for Gloucester is a fair example. of English power.
