Sir R. A. Butler, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour, intervened in the debate in support of an amendment which was later passed, and which, while welcoming the development of the practice of granting holi- days with pay by voluntary agreement, refused to assent to a Bill pending the report of the de- partmental committee under the chairmanship of Lord Amulree, which the government appoint ed earlier this year to investi gate all the relevant facts.
Sir R. A. Butler mentioned that the committee expected to finish taking evidence very and would thereupon proceed to consider its report.
He stated that since the ques- tion was last debated in the Com- mons, no less than 9 million work- people had been granted holidays with pay by agreement between employers and the trade unions concerned British-Wireless.
