PROTEST AGAINST RISE IN GREEN FEES

MITCHAM COMMON PLAYERS IN PREDICAMENT

London, September 30. HUNDREDS of club members who play over Mitcham Common Golf Course are threaten- ing to play elsewhere following a decision, coming into force on Saturday, to raise the green fees from 1s 6d to 2s a round, and from 2s 6d a day to 3s a day.

The decision to raise the fees has been made by a committee controlling golf played on the common, on which conservators and trustees are represented.

According to the rules of the course, members of clubs and visitors alike are affected, as members pay only a nominal annual subscription and green fees in addition.

Included among the clubs who play over the common are: Mit- cham Village, Croydon, and Clan ham. as well as the Parent Club. Club members suggest that only

DUKE OF KENT'S MISHIT!

Windsor, October 1

Mr. L. W. S. Howard, dent of Windsor Rugby Club, has removed the ban which he im- posed a year ago on the marriage of players.

He said on that occasion that during the close season eight players had married, and at that rate Windsor would not be able to field two teams for the whole of the season.

At this year's annual meeting Mr. Howard "admitted that his fear was mistaken. The club now had six prospective members, since two pairs of twins and four other children had already been born. Six of them were boys, and their fathers had been sent mem- bership forms.
