The fierce battle which has been raging for days on the Shanghai front, with both Chinese and Jap- anese striving to bring about a final decision, seems to be growing in intensity and rising to a crescendo of fury.

Chinese headquarters again accuse the Japan- ese of having used poison gas in the Lotien sector. The type of gas used is at present being tested in a laboratory.
