ENLARGED THYMUS GLAND CONTRIBUTORY TO R.A. DEATH

Proceedings were commenced this morning before Mr. W. Scho- field at the Central Magistracy in the case in which Gunner P. Mac- Intosh, Royal Artillery, of the 7th Anti-Aircraft Battery, stationed at Lyeemun, is charged with the man- slaughter of another Gunner, J. Beswick, on September 20, in the billiard room at the barracks.

Accused was represented by Mr. J.T. Prior, of Messrs. Wilkinson and Grist, while Mr. Whyati, Assis- tant Crown Solicitor, assisted by Inspector Rozeskwy, was for the Police.

Outlining the case, Mr. Whyatt said deceased and defendant be- longed to the same battery. Both were well liked and active sports- men, Beswick being a particularly good athlete: Last year he repre- sented the Brigade at boxing at Blackdown. There had been

RU

trouble between the men before. On September 20, Beswick, at din ner, was joined by Gunner Loftus, whom he had not seen for three months as the latter was stationed in Stonecutters. After dinner they adjourned to the billiard room and there found accused playing with Gunner Hills.
