BASEBALL LEAGUE

PERCENTAGES

FOR PAST SEASON

COLLIER AND D. LEONARD SHARE THE HONOURS

(By "SHORT STOP”)

Since the Greeks had a word for everything." there must be one for a resume of the past baseball League season. To put it very mildly, local baseball was ragged from start to finish, but it is not within possibility to put a finger on the sore spot of the sport in the Colony.

Starting with a flourish at the beginning of the season, in- terest waned half-way through the summer. The elements were not too kind, either, and gate receipts fell down tremendously when week-end after week-end found the ground at Caroline Hill flooded.

Criticism was rife beyond the games activities, but hardly a constructive idea was formulated and “squawks" fell on deaf ears.

At the meeting to-day at the Peninsula Hotel, when new officers of the League will be elected, it will be the time and the place to air discontented views.

SCORING

In compiling the averages of the past season, considerable difficulty was. encountered as some of the games were improperly scored. The official scorer, Mr. W. J. Fraser, did splendid work, and the percentages are the result of his hard work at the games, but there were some games which were not marked up properly, which makes it impossible to give percentages for the fielders.

The batting averages, however, are correct as they were all recorded dir- ing the season.

It is to be hoped that one official score will be at hand for all games next season, which will facilitate the compilation of averages.

LEADERS.

As was expected, Collier, of the Pui Ching team, led the batting for the League, and he also pitched the most winning games. David Leonard, of the Leonard, with Volunteers, made the most homers-four in nine games.

Collier, scored the most runs, 14, and the latter made the most hits, 19,
