LEAGUE APPLAUDS * RESOLUTION CONDEMNING

JAPAN

Geneva, To day.

The League Assembly met for the first time in the big assembly hall of the new Palace of the League yesterday, with the President of the assem- bly, the Aga Khan, in the chair.

The Aga Khan said that the fact that the As- sembly had now moved into its definite home was a symbol of the continuity of the League's work, and expressed the hope that the new Palace would be- come the centre of friendship of all nations.

The Assembly elected Belgium as a new non- permanent member by 47 votes to nil

At the close of the morning session the Aga Khan read the re- solution adopted on Monday by the committee of twenty-three on the Sino-Japanese conflict

He then placed the resolution be fore the Assembly for its decision. The Spanish delegate. Senor del Vayo, expressed the solidarity of Republican Spain with China.

CARRIED WITH APPLAUSE

The resolution was then carried amid applause without a dissentient voice.

After the first air raid warning of the day had been given this morning, the all clear signal was sounded at 10.30, but no details are available of events.

Firing was distinctly audible east of the city, and it is believed that a few bombs were dropped, but no definite information can be ob tained at present.

It transpires that in yesterday morning's raid four bombs were dropped on Whampoa.
