season.

Recent friendly matches have revealed form that is, to say the least, anything but encouraging. One need not be too pessimistic, and

bum- yet, can we look forward to a

The reasons are per season? numerous for a person to firmly be lieve that soccer this year is not going to be anything like what it has been in the past.

The runners-up will be without the services of some of their best players, they are doing their bit in Canton. New recruits who have been tried out for dif- ferent teams, have shown us noth- ing that we could rave about. The filling of vacancies by junior divi- sion players of last year and from their exhibitions, that is where they should remain--has not in any way, asssisted the somewhat complicated state of affairs that some clubs are experiencing at the present time.

There are a few teams, however, who are sure to keep alive the keen- ness of some followers, and we shall. be looking forward to their engage- ments.

The new regiment, The Middle- sex, have done extremely well in their friendly tussles, and this in spite of the fact that some of their outstanding performers are not with them. Then we have the Sea- forth Highlanders who have at all times given us first class football. That this team will be knocking on the championship door goes without saying.

South China can alwa eleven that could give most teams: in the Colony a scare. There is one lamentable fact about South China this year, and that is the absence of Lee Wai-tong, their idol and watch-winner. To suffer an injury. that will keep this player from performing before thousands of admiring fans foreigners, as well as his own people is our loss.

Kowloon have been rejuvenated with the inclusion of new blood, and judging by their game against the Middlesex, it means very ttle. This afternoon the Seaforths

should defeat Kowloon, and the other military team, The Middlesex, must be given the big edge to beat the Club. St. Joseph's and South China "A" should win their matches over Kowloon Chinese and Eastern respectively. The South China “B”* should have a even tussle with the Police to-morrow afternoon.
