The next meeting of the Cabinet, scheduled for to-morrow (Wednesday) will probably deal with the Mediterranean and the British protest to Japan Over the Hugessen Incident.

The British Ambassador to Rome, the Earl of Perth, is likely to be called before the Cabinet to give his views on the Mediterranean crisis.

Sending of a further Note to Japan will also probably be on the agenda, and a request will prob- ably be made to Tokyo to forward her final reply to the previous British Note.

By the death which occurred at midnight of Mr. Alfred Hicks, edi- tor of the "Hong Kong Telegraph,” a victim of the cholera epidemic, there passed one of the best-known figures in local journalism, a man who was highly-esteemed and res- pected by all with whom he into contact, and whose loss comes! as a deep personal sorrow to a wide circle of friends.
