A. L. Sullivan and L. Goldman were very disappointed at the non-arrival of their opponents for their doubles match, and it was later ascertained that Ma Nai-kwong and Li Kwai-hung and con- ceded them a walk-over the one dark patch on the opening day's play!
The courts were in splendid condition and all players spoke highly of the existing conditions, although the tennis on the whole was rather restrained, because of the conditions of play. This was particularly noticeable in the main singles encounter of the day, which was devoid of spirit- ed rallies with a very few ceptions.

Crawford was a big disappoint- ment and relied upon a fast sliced service to a great extent, failing dismally with anything overhead except in the closing stages în very nearly darkness, when he sal- lied forth to the net for his one decent overhead kill.
