Canton, Noon, To-day.
Syrens shrieked out their second air raid warn- ing shortly after 10.30 a.m. this morning. A squa- dron of fast fighting planes was immediately sent up, while the A.A. guns were manned for action.
As far as Canton was concerned, it turned out to be a false alarm, but the Air Force fighters have not yet returned to the aerodrome and it is not yet known whether they encountered the Japanese bombers before they reached the city.
Chinese rumours have converted the casual- ty list in this morning's raid into hundreds, but the officials report show that only three were killed and three wounded. Our Own Correspondent. OFFICIAL DAWN RAID REPORT·

The official Chinese report on this morning's air raid states that six Japanese machines were sight- ed over the coast at 5 o'clock.
The alarm in Canton itself was sounded at 5.40 a.m. and the planes were sighted five minutes later over Tungshan.

It is officially announced that China accepts fall responsibility for the bombing of the President Hoover yesterday and that she is ready to make redress.
It is explained that the Dollar
luxury liner was mistaken for a
Japanese transport.
It is reported that the raiders dropped seven bombs, one® of which damaged the liner-Renter.

planes did not reach Canton, being intercepted at Walchow by Chinese machines and turn- ed back.
Meanwhile, a solitary Japan- ese bomber was also observed over Shekling but the plane
dropped no bombs and was evid- ently only recomoitring.
The wreckage of the Japan- ese plane downed in this morn ing's raid was discovered at Lienhuashan, in the vicinity of
the Bocca Tigris forts, with the three dead bodies of the cupants strewn in grotesque at titudes nearby-Reuter
SWAMPED BY REFUGEES
Paris, Yesterday
The continuous infix of refu- gees from northern Spain into France via Bayonne, in south-west France, has led to sending of a letter from the Deputy for Bayonne to the Foreign Minister, M. Yvon Delbos
The Deputy declares that the stream of ugees has become a virtual calamity, to the city, which is unable to raise the high costs for support of the refugees.
Measures for sending the refu- gees back to Republican Spain are insufficient.
The Deputy also complains that British ships are bringing the re- fugees to France but that Britain leaves the expense of their upkeep entirely to France. Trans-Ocean.
