CHINESE APPALLED BY AFFAIR

Sir Hughe is extremely popular among Chin- ese, who are appalled at the news of his misfortune, which was immediately carried by radio and in ex- tra editions of the Chinese newspapers.

Reuter was told by the Country Hospital at midnight that Sir Hughe's pulse and temperature are quite satisfactory and that no change in his condition is expected during the night. As each hour passes, his chanees of recovery increase.

The crisis, which has not yet passed, is expect- ed to be at about 2 o'clock this afternoon. If his con- dition is then the same, the Ambassador will be out of danger.sban

HA. Thomson, attached to the Hospital Corps of the United States Marines, gave his blood for the Ambassador last night. Thomson is from Mountain View, California.

Shortly after midnight, a lone Chinese plane hummed_over the still-coveted Idzumo. The plane dropped no bombs but drew A.A. fire which was clearly audible in the Country Hospital-Reuter.
