Sydney, July 22.

AUSTRALIAN women's lawn tennis is destined, apparently, for a disappointing year. The failure to send a team abroad was the first setback, and it appears likely that the English team will not make the proposed tour, as the leading players are not available.

The decision has come as a sur- prise. Maitre Legrand has been counsel for the defence in nearly all the famous cases of recent years. It was he who defended Roger Ver-

The suspension is a sequel to a challenge to a duel issued by Mai- tre Legrand to M. Jules Verne, public prosecutor at Valence and grandson of the famous author. The challenge was made through the of the former Premier, M. Flandin, who reed to act as second.
