NEW ANGLO- ITALIAN PACT RUMOURS

Berlin, To-day.

Strong efforts are now being made by Great Britain to improve Anglo-Italian relations by con- clusion of a treaty supplementary to the present "Gentleman's Agreement" between the two coun- tries.

So declares the Paris correspondent of the "Cologne Gazette," who alleges that the British Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, has as his goal in foreign policy the patching up of Britain's differences with Rome.

The new agreement, the corres- pondent states, would be tied up with the Spanish civil conflict, and Signor Mussolini would promise Britain to associate himself with the non-intervention programme.

In return, the British Government would undertake to settle the vexed Abyssinian question to Italy's satis- faction by inducing the League of Nations at its next meeting to re- fuse to recognise Abyssinia any longer as an independent State.

NEW STRESA FRONT?

rela-

The correspondent adds that French circles also cherish the hope of improving Franco-Italian tions and thus to re-establish the former "Stresa front" between Bri tain, Italy and France, which was broken by the Abyssinian war.

The Quai d'Orsay, he states, would welcome any initiative taken by Britain in this. connexion. Trans-Ocean.
