IN PRAISE FOR WINNER

Chicago, June 24.

AMERICAN newspapers are full of praise for the

world's heavy-weight champion, Joe Louis, the second negro boxer to win the title, who last night knocked out the holder, James J. Braddock, in the eighth round of their 15-round bout at the Comis- key Baseball Stadium.

AT THE SAME TIME TRIBUTE IS PAID TO BRADDOCK, WHO, AFTER FLOORING LOUIS IN THE FIRST ROUND, PUT UP A GALLANT FIGHT FOR HALF-A DOZEN ROUNDS BEFORE SUCCUMBING TO THE HARD RIGHT HAND PUNCHES OF HIS YOUNGER RIVAL.

"The battle was far above the ordinary," said the "New York Times." "It held pulse-throbbing moments as have few heavy- weight championships in recent years.” The “Herald Tribune” said: “Braddock is the gamest Irishman who ever wore gloves. The dynamiting kid from the 'cane-breaks' treated a massive gathering of 55,000 to a dream fight.”

The "Daily News": "Jim was His taking a terrific beating. chin was an open target. The fight had turned into a slaugh- ter."
