London, June. 16. James Bruen, the 17-year-old boy golf champion, yesterday beat John Burke, the British Walker Cup player, and holder of the title, by 3 and 2 in the 36-hole final of the Irish Amateur Championship at Ballybunion.
Next year Bruen will be sitting- for examinations, and may be un- able to play in important golf.

Sir Malcolm Campbell, the British holder of the world land speed record, who is preparing for an attempt on Gar Wood's world speedboat record of 128 miles per hour, attained a speed of 85 miles per mile in his motorboat Bluebird on Loch Lomond to-day, despite bad visibility.
Sir Malcolm was very much pleased with the trial, but stated that further adjustments were be- ing made.
