SIDES
The League baseball encounter this afternoon at Caroline Hill should be very interesting in view of the fact that both the Hong Kong Baseball Club and the Volun- teers are in the running for the Championship, although the latter are better placed in that they have only lost one game, against two by the Club.
The Club must win this game in order to strengthen their claims for the championship, and are fielding include a strong side which will Rodger, a useful all-rounder, who has played in the States..
to On the whole there is little choose between the two teams, The Hong Kong Club boasting of a bet- ter pitcher in R. McCall, and first basemen in E. Hearter, while Smed- ley is superior to Hussain at third. The Volunteers, however, have saf-
er outfielders, while their short
stop, D. Leonard, the mainstay of
the team, is one of the best in the
Colony.
HARD HITTERS
Both sides
hitters, have hard Hearther; Divett Muir, Smedley and Ledig being good for a number of bases any time they bat, while the Volunteers have S. Leonard, Bowen, D. Leonard and Pereira.
The Volunteers are fielding their usual team though it has not been decided- who will do the pitching. Pereira has done well in the last few games, but it is expected that Bowen will start, to be relieved by Pereira later in the game.
R. McCall and Walker. will be pitching and catching respectively. The latter has greatly improved this season his throwing to second base being safe.
To-morrow, Pui-Ching, one of the strongest contenders for the League honours, will encounter the Hong first game. Kong Chinese in the The Hong Kong Chinese who for- feited their game against the Ja- panese last
