In brilliant weather, the Test match between England and New Zealand was resumed yesterday morning. England did not add materially to their score and the innings terminated at 424, Paynter batting very well for 72.
New Zealand started disastrously and at the lunch interval had scored only 66 runs for the loss of three of their best wickets. Thereafter an ex- cellent partnership between D. A. R. Moloney (64). and A. W. Roberts (58 not out) retrieved the situa- tion somewhat and at the close of play the score was 282 for 9.
Shortly after the tea interval, a crowd estimated at 17,500 saw both teams lined up and present- ed to His Majesty the King.

Shelsley Walsh, Jane 7. Raymond Mays, driving the same British ERA. car with which took second prize in the Isle Man race on Thursday, yesterday won the international hill-climb' contest here. He set up a new re- cord for the 1,000-1 ds climb 39.098ec, equal to nearly 52 m.p.h.
The previous best time, with slightly different method of start- ing, was 39.6sec., also by Mays on 11⁄2-litre E.R.A.
Amazing times were accomplish- ed by the tiny Austin Seven super- charged racers. They took the team prize and set up figures far ahead of anything previously corded for their class.
